The Biographical Portal (Biographie-Portal) is a cooperative project of the Bavarian State Library (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek), the Historical Committee at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (Historische Kommission bei der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften), the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften) and the Foundation Historical Dictionary of Switzerland (Stiftung Historisches Lexikon der Schweiz).
A joint index will make available the following dictionaries:

more than 100,000 scholarly biographies of persons from all social backgrounds
and nearly all periods of German, Austrian, and Swiss history may be accessed.
